Dairy has played an important role in providing essential nutrition for mankind for thousands of years. Today the role of dairy in providing safe sustainable nutrition is as important as it has ever been. But the general understanding of nutrition and health and the role of food and diets is not as advanced as it needs to be and particularly in a world where we cannot afford to squander our food production systems, our food and our diets on naive policies and advice.
We need to move away from the reductionist view of nutrition as the sum of the individual food components and consider the complex way multiple food components act within complex diets and individual lifestyles. Those setting policy or providing advice should also not forget that food needs to taste good and be convenient to eat.
The Netherlands National Committee of IDF is proud to organize the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016 in De Doelen in Rotterdam. We invite you to this top event.
For decades the Dutch dairy sector has been in the forefront of developments in the global dairy sector. The entrepreneurship, innovation and international orientation that underpin the competitive position of the Dutch dairy sector will undoubtedly attract many visitors from all over the world to the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016.
The major challenge for the global dairy sector is how to help nourish a growing population in a sustainable way. We are convinced that dairy will be an important source of safe and sustainable nutrition in the years to come. In the Netherlands we are well aware that dairy can only play this role in close collaboration with the global community, including both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
